When you think of climate change, as mentioned in the name, you think of changing temperature, which affects weather patterns, our ability to grow food and live in general. However if we want a better chance to address these issues then we must acknowledge the many parts which create the consequences we are experiencing. It is the big picture and understanding all the pieces to the puzzle. Let me explain.
WEB OF ENTITIES, MANY VARIABLES TO THE EQUATION
Politics has placed heavy emphasis on certain elements relating to the environment leading us to believe it is primarily caused by one or two main issues when in reality it is a more complex diagram of several interconnected behaviors, systems, and dilemmas. When we hear climate change we associate it to reducing our carbon footprints and the development and adoption of alternative energies. We have maybe 10% of the picture complete with this information seen all over headlines and discussed in politics and summit meetings. We cannot forget about the other 90% if we want to address all the life
There is too much focus on CO2 emissions and alternative energy in the climate crisis field (yes, it is a crisis). Meaning, there are many other elements and issues to be concerned with if we are to combat the climate crisis.
Capitalism - I shouldn't have to say anything about this one. But for those who are unaware, capitalism, at least in the form we know it as, is not compatible to a healthy environment and humans, and especially not animals, wildlife, or ecosystems.
Out of sight out of mind - Humans living in developed countries see less of the consequences our behavior has on the environment because the global south is who typically suffers the most with droughts, famine. resource extraction, giant piles of trash ****list specific stats & numbers
Human waste - Single use plastics, fashion....
The elimination of biodiversity - From pesticides, poaching,
Denial - Ignoring science
Distractions - Social media, tech, A.I., endless consumerism and entertainment
Corporate Greed/Dirty Business/Useless Rich -
Habitat destruction -
Contamination of soils and waterways -
Chemicals - In our food, water, in our yards, in our clothes, in our BODIES (Chemical body burdens which are permanent and exist in all of us now)
Plastic -
Artificiality - Synthetic food, clothing, medicine, furniture, etc.
Worsening air quality - ***What compiles the makeup of the substances in our air that we breathe RESEARCH
Food quality
Food Waste - Half goes to waste. due to standardization, etc.
Affect on overall human health which impacts decision-making abilities by humans.
